What is UNILAG DLI All About?

Distance Learning Institute (DLI) is the part time (weekend) programme of University of Lagos (UNILAG).

The Distance Learning Institute (DLI) is the organ of the University that operates and coordinates the Open and Distance Learning programmes. It has an enhanced status as that of a faculty in the University. It has its own Management Board and an Academic Board. It is empowered to formulate its own policies, employ its own staff and be responsible for academic programmes, examinations, supervise its day-to-day affairs and generate funds for its operations.

The DLI has a full complement faculty consisting of both academic and non-academic staff. The academic staff is further divided into core and adjunct facilitators. Being part of the University of Lagos, our faculty of adjunct lecturers and facilitators include qualified and experienced lecturers from all the cognate faculties collaborating with DLI to offer Open Distance Education.  There is also an institutionalized operational quality assurance for all our programmes.

UNILAG DLI Lectures

UNILAG DLI offers a flexible, high quality distance learning, and you will study in a flexible way that works for you whether you are at home, at work or on the move. This gives opportunity to students who may not be physically present in a normal setting such as a classroom.

UNILAG DLI Modules

module is a self-contained course that usually lasts for one semester. It covers just one course and is assessed independently of other modules.

When you are successfully admitted, you will have access to your course modules.

UNILAG DLI LMS

UNILAG DLI LMS (Learning Management System) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of modules, assignments, and other relevant study materials. The learning management system concept emerged directly from e-Learning

Every DLI student has a username and password to access the LMS to download course modules and do assignments.

UNILAG DLI Duration

The duration of Distance Learning Institute (DLI) in University of Lagos (UNILAG) is five (5) years for all the courses. Notwithstanding this, the duration of those admitted through Direct Entry is three (3) or four (4) years depending on the level they started.

Direct Entry students that started from 200 level will spend four years while those that started from 300 level will spend three years.

Note that the level to start from depends on your qualification.

UNILAG DLI Certificate

UNILAG DLI Certificate is a well recognized certificate because the programme is approved by National Universities Commission (NUC). In other words, the certificate carries the same prestige and reputation associated with that of the regular undergraduate programme.

No. DLI graduates do not join NYSC mobilization to serve but collect NYSC Exclusion Letters.

100 Level Entry Requirement

WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO (O’ Level) or its equivalent with credits five (5) subjects including English Language,  Mathematics,  Physics and any two (2) of Chemistry or Biology, Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics and Computer Studies/Data Processing  at not more than two (2) sittings

200 Level Direct Entry Requirements

(a)   Graduates of the University of Lagos or any other University recognized by the Senate with a minimum of Pass in relevant disciplines excluding holders of degrees in Mathematics subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(b) The National Certificate of Education (NCE) with at least Merit grades in Mathematics and one (1) other Science subjects,  subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(c) The National Diploma (ND) with a minimum of Lower Credit in relevant fields subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(d) GCE A’ Level with at least Credit grades in two (2) relevant subjects such as Mathematics, Physics etc. subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(e) The Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) certificate with at least Credit grades in three (3) relevant subjects in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

300 Level Direct Entry Requirements

(a) Graduates of the University of Lagos or any other University recognized by the Senate with good honors degrees in relevant disciplines excluding holders of degrees in Mathematics subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

(b) Higher National Diploma (HND) with a minimum of Lower credit in relevant disciplines subject to satisfaction of ‘O’ Level requirements.

UNILAG DLI GST

New students do not know anything about GST which means General Studies until they go for their course registration. General studies are courses all students must offer irrespective of their faculty and department.

The goal of GST is to encourage multi-disciplinary studies that could broaden the knowledge and widen the academic horizons of students of the University in all Departments and Faculties.

The followings are UNILAG DLI GST courses:

  • GST 307: Entrepreneurial Studies
  • GST 214: Introduction to Computer
  • GST 203: History and Philosophy of Science
