About Us

The Human Resources Development Centre (HRDC) is a Training Centre of the University of Lagos with the mandate to develop and offer Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Professional Certificate and other specialized programmes aimed at capacity building, with strong linkages to professional bodies, for the benefit of the target groups in the public and private sectors of the economy.

The HRDC, UNILAG programmes attract candidates/employees from major organizations within and outside the country and the Centre has impacted in areas relevant to key employment sectors. Our Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and specialized programmes are domiciled in relevant academic departments, thereby guarantying high level of quality control in line with the University standard.

The products of HRDC programmes are well equipped professionally in their various fields of study and HRDC certificate is nationally and internationally recognized. This is particularly evident in the requests for the graduates of our programmes at the top echelons of security outfits, multinational organizations and many other notable organizations and also the admission of our graduates into Direct Entry Undergraduate and Post Graduate Diploma programmes in foreign Universities.

Human Resources Development Centre, University of Lagos, Nigeria. The Human Resources Development Centre (formerly Human Resources Development Board) was established in November, 1995 by resolution of the University of Lagos Council, and commenced operations in January, 1996.

The Centre was created to handle staff training and development functions with the mandate to develop and offer part-time professional Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and other specialised programmes aimed at capacity building, with strong linkages to professional bodies, for the benefit of vast and multifarious target groups in the public and private sectors of the economy.

The main thrust of HRDC’s activities is to provide increased access to quality human capacity development, which is vital for the nation’s rapidly developing economy. Presently, the Centre has over a hundred academic and professional programmes and can readily boast of being the Centre of first choice and indeed ‘nulli secundus’ in providing organisations with socially relevant professional, technical and managerial skills for the development of the nation’s economy.

Many of our professional programmes have been used by participants as leverage in acquiring higher degrees in Universities within Nigeria and abroad.

University of Lagos, Human Resources Development Centre in collaboration with the Institute of Security, Nigeria invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the following part-time security programmes:-

Diploma in Security Operations and Management Programme.
Advanced Diploma in Security Operations and Management Programme.
Specialist Course in intelligence and investigation Studies.
Specialist Course in Law Enforcement, Preventive Security and Border Protection.
Specialist Course in Corporate and Industrial Security.

(1) DIPLOMA IN SECURITY OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

(Foundation and Pre-Professional/ Intermediate/ Associate Level)

These are the first and second stages of the Institute Professional Programmes. They constitute solid foundation and starting point in the security and safety profession. The programmes cover basic practical and pre-vocational level including elements of theories of security studies package. They are modules I and II of the Institute professional training programmes.

(2) ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN SECURITY OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (Supervisory, Professional and Managerial level)

The course is designed to provide an appreciation at a professional level of the technical and strategic stage of security and safety practice. Students undertake core modules on the theory, practice and development of security together.

The third and fourth stages of the professional career level of the Institute programme which are modules III & IV. It covers combination of work place experience and professional scheme in security management.

(3) SPECIALIST COURSE IN INTELLIGENCE AND SECURITY INVESTIGATION STUDIES

This programme aims to introduce participants to advanced study in Intelligence and Security Investigation practice in order to equip them for a wide range of careers in the security and safety industry.

This is the final part of the five-tier professional qualification framework.

(ii) SPECIALIST COURSE IN COPRORATE AND INDUSTRIAL SECURITY

This programme aims to introduce participants to the advanced study in specialized security operations in public and private organizations and business environments In order to equip them for a wide range of careers in the security and safety industry. It is the final part of the five-tier professional qualification framework.

(iii) SPECIALIST COURSE IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, PREVENTIVE SECURITY AND BORDER PROTECTION

This is the final part of the five-tier professional qualification framework. It covers exploratory and project work including industrial visits and reports, exchange of innovative ideas and projects are encouraged.

This programme aims to introduce participants to the advanced professional study in law Enforcement Preventive Security and Border Protection which are not only sensitive, but also involve human attitudes and a variety of activities.

The programme is designed for Intelligence Officers in Intelligence Office in the Armed Forces, Police, Customs, Prisons, NDLEA, Immigration, NSCDC, Head of Security Units, Security Managers, Private and Corporate Investigators, Intelligence Manaprs, Operators of Security Services, Training Manaprs, Insurance Managers, Factory Managers and Personnel Manqers, Safety Manaprs, Auditors, OffIcers and Supervisors

of Security OutfIts, Lepl Advisers, Prosecutors, Analysts and Examiners.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

DIPLOMA IN SECURITY OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME (Institute of Security Modules I & II).

Holders of WAEC, SSCE/GCE (O/L) with pass in minimum of five papers, Grade II Teachers Certificate, Practising and in-service Training course Certificate issued by Military, Paramilitary and Police Training Schools.
Mature candidates:
Five years working experience
30 years and above
A minimum of 3 papers in WAEC/GCE
Holders of WASC, SSCE or GCE (O/L)

DURATION: Twelve (12) Months TUITION FEES: N55,000.00

COURSE MATERIALS: N20, 000.00

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN SECURITY OPEM AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME

(Institute of Security Modules IU &. IV)

– Five years working experience

– 30 years and above

– A minimum of 3 papers In WAEC/GCE

– Holders of WASC, SSCE or GCE (OIL)

Holder of University Degree, HND and relevant professional qualifications in appropriate discipline particularly security, social sciences, humanity, management, phys cal sciences Engineering and Technology.

(b) Holders of OND, NCE or in Security, Crime Management, Social Science, Humanity, Management, Physical Science Engineering and Technology plus five years of experience as in/or Security Officer/Manager/Controller.

(d) Institute of Security, Nigeria Certificates of Completion of professional levels of Modules I & II.

DURATION: Twelve (12) months TUITION FEES: N65,000.00

COURSE MATERIAL: N20,000.00

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR S ECIALIST SECURITY PROGRAMMES

(Institute of security Modules V)

An applicant for admission to these Specialist Security programmes shall be holders of

(1) Institute of Security Certificates of Completion of professional levels of Modules III&’IV

(2) Advanced Diploma in Security Operations and Management /Internationally recognized Professional Diploma Certificate In Security and Safety.

(3) Professional Certificate in Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PC!), Physical Security Professional (PSP), Fraud Examiners.

(4) Professional Certificates Issued by Military and Paramilitary Academy in Nigeria.

(5) Graduate of Universities holding a degree or HND n humanity, behavioral sciences, science and technology with security and protection background:

DURATION: Six (6) Months

TUITION FEES: N75,000.00

COURSE MATERIALS: N25,000.00

Unilag HRDC is a programme that is meant for people who want to acquire a Diploma Certificate in Unilag.

DIPLOMA IN SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND ADMINISTRATION

DURATION: Two (2) academic sessions FEES: N 80,000 per Session Course Materials: N 10,000

LECTURE VENUE: Department of Sociology, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Lagos.

DATE OF QUALIFYING EXAMINATION: Date & time for the examination will be publicized at the

Department of Sociology and Human Resources Development Centre, University of Lagos Main Campus.

NOTE: After the completion of the programme, candidates can proceed to B.Sc Social Work.

DIPLOMA IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

DURATION: Two (2) semesters (9 months) FEES: N 60, 500 per Session Course Materials: N 19,500.

LECTURE VENUE: Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS), University of Lagos.

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION

DURATION: Two (2) semesters (9 months) FEES: N 120, 000 per Session Course Materials: N 30,000
